ESOMAT 1991
The 2nd European Symposium on Martensitic Transformations
J. Phys. IV France – Vol. 01 - C4
Aussois, France, 16-18 September 1991

This volume contains the proceedings of the European Symposium « Martensitic Transformation and Shape Memory Properties » held in Aussois, France, 16-18 September 1991. This symposium was the second one which followed the successful meeting in Bochum, Germany in 1989. While the first European meeting covered all the aspects of the martensitic transformation, this one was more devoted to fundamentals of martensitic transformation and to shape memory alloys and properties.

The proceedings contains nine invited papers and sixty one contributed papers. Only the invited papers were orally presented. All the contributed papers were presented as posters. Five special sessions were related to the various aspects of martensitic transformation and shape memory properties as follow:
During one hour an usual poster session occurred with every author in front of his poster for comments and discussions. The second hour, in the conference room, was devoted to the general discussion of the session: the chairman, who had already read all the sessions papers, made a short review which pointed out the relevant points of discussion; afterwards he animated the discussion. This system has been successful thanks to the excellent work of the chairmen.

The conference was attended by 120 scientists from 16 different countries including 6 countries out of Europe.

It is a pleasure to me to express my sincere gratitude to the invited speakers, to the chairmen and to the members of the European Committee for their contributions to this meeting. At last I want to thanks Miss Claude Bernavon for her technical secretary part in the organization of this symposium.
